Sassarini has applied for a Healthy Start Planning Grant. A planning grant allows us to work with community partners to support our families so that their children, our students, can succeed academically. We know that minimally we need better communication with our families; better transportation services between school and home. We know our students need more attention to their health care. Our parents want homework support and more academic help for thier children. Our planning period, should we receive the grant, will focus on surveying all families and prioritizing the needs that help students in school.
Sassarini is awaiting information whether our Healthy Start Grant
application will be funded for the years 2007-2009. The California
Department of Education will notify us on March 23rd.
Thanks to all the community groups that have partnered with Sassarini to help our families:
- The Sonoma Valley Health Center
- La Luz
- Valley of the Moon Boys and Girls Club
- CommonBond
- Sonoma Valley Adult School
- FISH
- The Sonoma Valley Mentor Alliance
- Thanks to Bill Hammett of CommonBond for help in getting the grant delivered.
In 2006-2007, Sassarini has received:
- $5000 from Plein Aire for arts projects
- $426 from BoxTops for Education for Safety Programs
- More than $5000 for our library from Love Our Libraries, the Native Sons, and the Kawanas
- $500 from Longs Drugs. Thank you! This supports our Lifeskills Programs
- A new dictionary for every third grader from the Kawanas of Sonoma
- $10,000 from the Organization of Parents and Teachers for field trip funding, new classroom furniture, and funding an instructional assistant.
We couldn't do it without our parents, our Mentors, and our community supporters.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
